Answer:
The adult dose of zyrtec is 10mg per day. I won't advise you to take it or not b/c you are still considered a child, and your parents have to decide whether or not to give you the medicine. As long as you are adult weight, your mom could give you that dose, otherwise, your dose would be based on your weight, which you did not give us.
It could be allergies to your dogs. And if it is, the zyrtec should help you (if mom gives it to you). You would need to take the medicine once a day, every day. You should see improvement in symptoms immediately.
An allergy test really isn't that bad, and its the only way you will know for sure. What they do when you see the allergist is, first they talk to you and mom for quite a while getting your history and asking a bunch of questions. Then they have the nurse prepare you for the test. You put on a hospital gown on your top (you only have to undress halfway so your back is exposed). YOu lay on your stomach and they first write a bunch of numbers on your back. Then they do a series of skin prick tests next to the numbers they wrote. It really doesn't hurt. It feels more like its tickling you than a needle or anything. Then the nurse looks to see which things you reacted to and puts that in the chart. Then the doctor will come back in and talk to you and mom for awhile. They may ask for a bloodtest, but this is usually only done if you have a food allergy (I think). And if you are really nervous about the bloodtest, they will let you reschedule that for another day. I have several people in my family with allergies, so we've been thru this a couple times now.
