I have been diagnoised with exercise induced urticaria, I have been active in sports such as basketball ever since I was little, now that I'm 28 I get hives after 45 mins of basketball. Doctors have given me sample allergy medicine such as XYZAL which has worked, but the price of the medicine is just too expensive. I would take it 1.5 hours prior to exercise or active sports. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there's any other medication you have tried?

Answer:
Well, better ask your doctor to prescribe an alternative and cheaper medicine if the one you are using now is too expensive for you.

When you are at home, try to overcome this exercise induced urticaria by playing or doing some stressful activities.. when you are at home. Let the urticaria come out, it will go away anyway in a few hours until such time that your body will get immune and will react differently until you overcome that hypersensitivity reaction.

Answer:
try social services or the family resourses in your area they have funds to pay for medication, hope this helps you really need your medicine

Answer:
I've heard Claritin D working for this

ONly take as instructed !!

Answer:
You can try other over the counter antihistamines to see if there is a cheaper one that will work. Just be aware that some antihistamines can cause drowsiness. I am not familiar with Xyzal, but Zyrtec is a great antihistamine.

Answer:
Hello,

I have something similar. I have cholinergic urticaria which is where I get extremely itchy & get hives when I get hot (from exercise, etc.). I break out in a prickly, stingy, itchy sensation with little red bumps sometimes.

If that is the same type of hives, then you probably won't find much help with most meds. Some antihistamines may help slightly, but my experience has been that they don't help much.

This crazy hives thing has really had a big impact on my own life. You may want to check out the site below. It is my own personal story about this stuff. You can find out more about what I have done, etc.

Anyways, I am really sorry you have this condition as well. Hang in there & don't give up. Even if you get down, just keep going.
