Wondering if anyone knows the allergie test where you hold your hand over a certain food and if you can't move the hand being held over the food with your other hand your not allergic to the food, or something like that!! Need help finding out how this test is done???? Anybody know???
Answer:
Annie: Forget holding out your arm, someone is pulling your leg! It is not possible to detect if there is IgE present in your blood due to allergy from a food just by simply holding your hand over it.
There are a couple of approaches that are accepted as accurate. The first two require a good allergist or immunologist, the third requires you to be very self-controlling. The allergist or immunologist can perform a skin patch test or a blood test. With the skin test, results are immediate. With the RAST test, it may take up to 2 weeks to get your results back. You can try an elimination/rotation diet, but this requires self control and about 40 days. If you want to give it a whirl, I am including a link

Sorry, but that's a load of bull. You need an actual allergy test from a doctor to know for sure.

I have undergone allergy testing, and there was no mention of this as a possibility. I think it would have been much easier! My test included eating only certain foods while adding possible problem foods each other day to see which ones I reacted too. I also did a skin test where a pad with lots of little sections filled with allergins was placed on my back to see where on my back I had a reaction. I wouldn't trust the test above, if it was that easy, I'm sure my doctor would have had me try it…
