I just sat on it for an hour or two without realizing it and my eyes are swollen and my nose is runny. The couch didn't cost anything but it's a really nice couch (the original owner paid $700 for it and it has a bed underneath it) so it would be a shame to get rid of it, but i can do that if necessary.

Have it vacuum cleaned or dry cleaned to remove the lints or cat fur debris.
Or change its covers.
The idea of the previous answerer will be my last resort if my previous suggestions dont work. Or give it to somebody else who can use it and who is not allergic to cats.
Answer:

Unfortunately, cat allergens can still cause allergic reactions for up to 9 months after removal of the furniture from the cat. You can try vaccumming and see if that helps but I think you will suffer more if you continue to sit on it. Cat allergens linger for quite a while…
Answer:
You can CURE your cat allergy by taking a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day. Your body will work with the local honey to develop immunities to any air born irritant around you-like dust, mold, mildew, pollen, PET DANDER and smog. If its in the air around you, local honey will work. Like all herbal remedies, it will take a while to become effective but you will also notice that you don't get cold and flu symptoms as the local honey gradually takes effect.
