I woke up in the middle of the night to some really painful and unpleasant cramps (my mum said they could be period cramps but I don't normally get them and I'm not on) so I took some ibuprofen and went to sleep. Then I woke up again and went to the bath room. I looked in the mirror and noticed the whole left side of my face had swollen. It went from the top side of my lip to the bottom of my eye lid. It still hasn't gone down, absolutely. My lips better (originally it was numb and hard to move) but my eyes still puffed. It doesn't hurt it's just uncomfortable.
I think it might be because I used a different type of tooth paste to normal but I also went outside in freshly cut grass yesterday even though I don't normally have anything in the hayfever side of things and have been exposed to grass for long periods of time before. I also used E45 instead of my normal moisturizer but I use that frequently in other parts of my body and even use E45 shampoo to wash my hair and have done for a while. I also washed my face with the hand wash.. but i do this every so often too and use that hand wash many times a day.
Sorry for length..
what do you think it could be?!
thanks. =D ♥
Answer:
Is there really such a thing as a toothpaste allergy?
If you have a toothpaste allergy it can be very hard to diagnose because so many people have never considered the fact that they might be allergic to their toothpaste. Toothpaste allergies are not thought to be common but this could be due to the fact that they’re often misdiagnosed or not reported. Toothpaste is made up of various ingredients both natural and chemical that can cause a allergic reaction and in rare cases anaphylactic shock, leading to death.
Toothpaste makers use a lot of additives for color, cleaning, flavor and to assist in digestion. Even though many of these ingredients are in very small amounts anyone with a hypersensitive allergy can tell you it doesn't take much to cause allergic reactions.
Ingredients That Might Cause a Toothpaste Allergy
cinnamon
fluoride
aluminum
sodium benzoate
propylene glycol
Papain
Its not just chemicals like fluoride that are responsible for toothpaste allergies, natural ingredients like papain can cause a problem. Papain is derived from papaya and is put into toothpaste as a digestive aid for the small amounts of toothpaste that get ingested.
What are the symptoms?
Though there are a wide variety of symptoms do to all the ingredients the most common are rashes which appear like contact dermatitis. These rashes will usually start in the corner of the mouth and if untreated they slowly spread down the face. Some people will get cankers or sore and inflamed gums especially right after they’ve brushed. Even some gastrointestinal and respiratory problems can be related to toothpaste allergies.
If its still swollen in the morning maybe you should go to the physicians for somr antihistamines. If it continues to swell go to the hospital as your throat can swell up.
