May
About a week and a half ago my body had hives all over it and rashes with what looked to be mosquito bites formed into separate giant groups of raised bumps on my skin. It started on my knees and elbows and waist, and then moved onto my arms and legs.
After a few days like this, I went to the doctor and she told me it was definitely not chiggers or bed bugs, but an allergic reaction. She asked if I had used any old skin products or eaten anything weird lately. I stated all that I had to eat was pizza from a place I always eat at, and then a sandwich and cookie from my place of work which I eat all the time.
But then I remembered that that day (Sunday) I had gone to the beach and on the shower after, I used an “after tanning lotion” that was a year old and that may have been it. So, I immediately threw it out and a few months old body wash as well, just in case. I have not used any new detergents and have also washed all of my sheets and my sister has slept in my bed twice and not had any weird allergic reactions.
So, the Physician gave me a steroid shot that she stated was like a really huge Benadryl dosage. For about a day, I was fine. And then, it started again all over my body. She game me a prescription for Methylrednisolone 3MG Dostri. It is a six day dosage and I am on the 4th day. I’m still getting allergic reactions and for the past three days I have had diarrhea. The reactions are not as bad but that’s because I am on Benadryl so that it doesn't spread.
Now this morning, the fourth day, my body aches all over. My ribs, leg muscles, etc. I have no idea why. I don't feel sick, just these symptoms that I have mentioned. The only thing I have the ability to think of is I’ve been taking that medication and Benadryl, and also I drank a lot on Saturday night at a wedding (didn't feel drunk at all from dancing a lot I guess) but yesterday (Sunday) I was OK with the exception of a pocket of gas on the side of my ribs that wouldn't go away and injured a lot. Then, I wake up today and my whole body aches. This can't be chicken pox either as I have already had it.
So, I remembered this day that two days before I felt sick (over a week ago) on a Saturday night, I ate some pork fat. Like a lot of it on accident (I know that sounds stupid). When I say a lot, I mean like three fork bites of it. But, this allergic reaction hadn't happened until Monday morning, and on Sunday afternoon it is when I used that year old after tanning lotion. So, was it the lotion or the pork fat? I have had that pork fat before in the past and have never gotten sick, but I had two more bites that I’ve had in the past. Maybe it was too much? But why would it have taken so much time to affect me?
I can think of NO OTHER REASONS why I feel the way that I do. What is going on???
By the way, I am 22, male, and always have been very healthy.
Answer:
Don't wait until you take all of the antibiotics they will not help hives at all but can cause diarrhea. You need to see an allergist as soon as you can and don't wait. You’re having an allergic reaction to something and need to find out what it is.You can have an instant reaction to something or you can also have a delayed reaction to things.
Answer:
You need to go see an allergy specialist to get tested to see to what you're allergic. Seriously.
Answer:
Yes, set up the appointment anyway - it is possible it isn't the food at all, but maybe you are having a reaction to the antibiotics that you’re on. I’m thinking that you’re only going to have a skin reaction to the tanning stuff - but all the other pain that you relate could be medication reaction. As you’ll see below, bone and joint pain and muscle weakness and pain are side effects.
The side effects off the web on Methylprednisolone:
Tell your physician immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: bone/joint pain, simple bruising/bleeding, black stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, severe stomach/abdominal pain, increased thirst/urination, fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, swelling of the ankles/feet, persistent weight gain, puffy face, uncommon hair growth, thinning skin, slow wound healing, signs of infection (e.g., persistent fever/cough/sore throat, painful urination, eye pain/discharge), muscle weakness/pain, mental/mood changes (e.g., mood swings, depression, agitation), vision changes, seizures, unusual skin growths.
