I recently went to the HOSPITAL because I broke out in hives all over my arms and legs.It progressed to my eyes and I started to have blurry vision. The E.R. DR. gave me 25mg of Benadryl and PEPCID to take @ home. I am just curious as to HOW the Combination works? I’m leaning towards my out break being STRESS RELATED. I’ve noticed I seem to start with a Hive outbreak when I begin getting stressed. I’ve found myself having to take the combination @ least each otherday.Should I be concerned about taking this ?
Answer:
Believe it or not, the Pepcid contains fametodine and that medication has been found useful in the treatment of hives. BTW, I think both drugs are very safe to take on a regular basis and wouldn’t be concerned about that. AND, it is much better to keep your hives under control, as you do get a pretty serious case of them.
FROM THE INTERNET:
ype H2 antihistamines: Drugs such as ranitidine (Zantac), cimetidine (Tagamet), and famotidine (Pepcid) have also been found to improve the rash and swelling when given with the type H1 antihistamines. Type H2 antihistamines were developed to treat ulcers. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved treating hives or angioedema with these drugs, but most physicians feel this is an appropriate use.
Answer:
The Benadryl and Pepsid do not work together as for the hives, just the Benadryl for that, the Pepsid is to calm your stomach.Lots of times when you have an allergic reaction it will affect your stomach so the allergist told me they give it to calm nausea or stomach pain.
Answer:
pepcid is for GERD and doesnt help with hives.
benadryl is for allergies.
histamine blocker.
Answer:
I was given Benadyrl before for hives because it helps with the allergic reaction. But, I have no idea on the pepcid part!?!
