Hi, I'm George, 18, and thought I was healthy,

I never ate junk/fast food, I excercised daily, and I’m a nice and caring person…

A cople of weeks ago I had a bmp on my neck, and I got a CT scan, later it turned out that I had 12 small tumors on my neck, I’m going to have them removed through surgery, and then they are going to be tested for traces of cancer.

I feel like there is something they are not telling me, and I do believe I may have cancer, and if so what type?

I haven't told any of my relatives or friends in fear that they might bring down my moral, like I comprehend they care, but the few friends I have told either play the victum “Why do bad things always happen to me”, or they use me as an excuse “I told my friend I couldn't fly to see her cause I stated my friend George is sick with tumors” I just want to get throught this without feeling like the fragile, weak, delicate person I’m not.

Can you please help me? Personal stories would be great =]

Answer:
I'm a cancer survivor (breast)-2 1/2 years. . I live a healthy lifestlye too. There’s no one cause for cancer. Cancer is not your fault, you did nothing to 'cause' it. Your tumors are probably non cancerous; if they were prone to be cancer the doc should have talked to you about that possibility. You're 18 and they have to directly tell you.

My tumor was biopsied before any surgery. The doc took a needle and aspirated (sucked out) a tiny of the tissue from the tumor. The tissue was tested and it was cancer and then I had the surgery. The only way a doc can tell if it's cancer and what kind, is to aspirate or remove the tumor. I didn't tell too many people;usually they don't know what to state and end up saying dumb things. Take it one step at a time. If you want more info on tumors in the neck go to www.cancer.org. I wouldn't spend a lot of time thinking about it and creating anxiety in yourself since you don't know what it is. Save your energy. You’ll get through this whether it's cancer or not.

Answer:
First of all the vast majority of lumps in the neck are non cancerous. Secondly, most people do not know how to respond to issues regarding cancer and at age 18 more so than usual.

They’re doing the correct procedures, they’ve no more information to tell you.

Answer:
Bad things happen to good people. It sucks.

But chances are, you're okay. Tumors arent always cancerous, especially in people your age. You probably think theres something they arent telling you because your acared, dont work yourself up. Chances are, you're going to be fine.

Answer:
****, that's my worst nightmare. I hope you're ok.

Answer:
You haven’t said what symptoms you’ve, other than a lump in your neck, or what the CT report said, so there’s not enough information to tell you what type of cancer you may have.

I’m also not sure why you think your physician is keeping something from you. He or she is morally and legally obligated to tell you the truth. I know sometimes doctors can be vague and it can feel like they are not telling you everything, but it isn’t because they are keeping something from you, it is because they really don’t know the answer. You need to remember physicians are people too and some of them are superior at explaining than others. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions or tell them if you don’t understand something, most physicians want their patients to understand.

Sometimes people state stupid things when there’s something wrong with someone they care about, but they don’t mean to they just don’t know what else to state. Tell your friends you want them to treat you the way they always have and not to treat you any differently. Tell them if you want to speak to them about it they just need to listen.

I know this may not be the answer you were looking for, but I hope it helps a little. Good luck on your surgery. I hope it is nothing to worry about.
