Painful lymph nodes would most likely be an infection or virus. Lymph nodes enlarged from cancer USUALLY aren't painful. That stated, there are always exceptions — cancer doesn't always play by the rules. If the nodes don’t go down within a few days or there is no explanation for why they’re enlarged, see a doctor who can evaluate whether they are something to be concerned over. A doctor needs to actually feel and see the nodes to determine whether they are a problem.
Answer:
Infections and cancers. Maybe something a little far out but my child was scratched by a cat. She had painful lymph nodes under the arm. Due to familial history of cancers we went in and swiftly got checked out. Turns out the scratch had infected her with “cat scratch fever”. A course of antibiotics and everything was good to go. Please get checked out. It is really important to do this as soon as you notice a problem. Hope this helps you out.
