I can't speak with any authority on this issue as I'm not an insurance underwriter. What I’ll state, however, is that islet cell transplantation is still in experimental stages. Even though it's been done for several years now, the biggest problem seems to be rejection of the transplanted cells. (There are currently investigations going on to 'wrap' the islet cells in an extract of seaweed which, reportedly, lessens the chances of the transplant being rejected.)

I highly doubt it, because it would be considered “experimental”. We're having problems just getting insurance companies to pay for continuous glucose monitoring systems…
