How long should we wait?

Author: admin

—————————————-…

We're doing a test with Lacey. We gave her a 54 g's of carbs smoothie and had her finish it within 10 minutes. We’re planning on checking her ever 15 or 20 minutes. What I want to know is should we wait 15 minutes AFTER she finished or 15 after she started drinking? THanks!!

Answer:
Oral glucose tolerance test
This test measures your response to sugar. First we measure fasting blood glucose level, and then glucose solution is given, after that we measure blood glucose after 1 hour and 2hours. A normal blood glucose level after an oral glucose tolerance test is less than 140 mg/dL. Level between 140 mg/dL to 199 mg/dL suggests pre-diabetes. A blood glucose level of 200 mg/dL or higher two hours after you drink the glucose solution might advocate that you have diabetes mellitus.

Try it as stated. Before,1 hour and 2 hour.>

Answer:
Hello Lacey's Mom,
Not sure what test you might be referring too. Is this just to see how her blood sugar reacts in a given period of time? This does not sound like the fasting blood glucose test or any other that I'm aware of.

As far as Nellie Bly's response, yes “The peak of blood sugar is one and one half hours to two hours” which is post-prandial, however, I might point out this wasn’t a normal meal cycle and the smoothie is similar to what you would give a diabetic that’s going into diabetic shock. The normal blood sugar spike would occur much sooner than a post-prandial reading.

Answer:
I think you should drink the smoothy and let Lacey prick your finger every 15 minutes. This does not make any sense. The peak of blood sugar is one and one half hours to two hours after a meal.addendum:I hope that thumbs down was just a sad tiny thumb that Lacey got to prick on her mother.

Answer:
You can test every hour after finished drinking the smoothie. Labcorp does this kind of test for physicians to find out if a person is diabetic.

Answer:
Check first. Then smoothie. Then re-check.
