I've had type 1 diabetes (insulin dependant) for almost 2years now and its taken control of mine and my family's life's. My visions blurred, cant control blood sugars, i've collapsed a few times and i'm getting pains in my abdomen, feet and fingers. I'm so scared, my GP doesn't seem to understand, he just says carry on taking insulin and you'll be fine.
What should I do? I'm terrified this disease is going to kill me.

Answer:
You need to see an endocrinologist. Most GP's (your especially!) simply doesn't have the expertise to help a type 1 diabetic. Endocrinologists spend more time in medical school and spend more time learning their specialty. Diabetes is manageable, you should not have such bad health issues after only two years. Until you see and endocrinologist, you need to begin keeping a meticulous diary of what you eat, when you eat, and how much insulin you take. Measure food to get an accurate carbohydrate count. Always check your sugar before eating, then check about two hours afterward. This diary will help you identify patterns of highs and lows. You might find that you are taking too much or too little insulin.

My son sees an endocrinologist and also a diabetes educator. Both have different things to offer and as a result my son's blood sugar is within normal limits more often than not. My son's diabetes educator can help you remotely by phone and online (but this is not a free service) - see www.integrateddiabetes.com. There's some helpful info on his site, such as logsheets, that is free.

The bottom line is that you MUST see a different doctor. The one you are seeing is not handling your care appropriately.

Both my sisters have type 1 diabetes and there average numbers are in the 500s. Until your body is done growing you’ll never be able to completely control your blood Sugar and that's just the way it is. Those are going to happen each once in a will there's no need to freak and your not dieing. By far the ideal way to control your blood Sugar is to control your emotions sounds crazy i no but that’s the key try to stay relaxed as passable. If you’re still worried that your diabetes is out of hand ask your Physician if you could spend a weekend at the hospital to get them under control and ask him if you could have insulin resistance. good luck!!!

Answer:
I am a diabetic (type 1) now for 7 years and my life is still going on strong, better and superior!! You need to see a professional or Nutritionist to help you with your diet. That will help you to control your blood sugar levels and keep them in control- and you also need to do exercises daily!
After that I can guarantee that you won't just die from diabetes. Just look after yourself and keep on controlling the blood sugar levels according to your diabetic specialist/nutritionist. All of the best and be strong!

Answer:
First step is to grab control of your life back! It is time to see a specialist, get a referral to an endocrinologist, he/she will become part of the team along with a diabetes educator. They will work with you to come up with a meal plan, testing plan and insulin plan to get you in control. Once you are in control there’s no reason you will not be able to live a long and healthy life.

Answer:
Others have aleady answered your question well but it is worth noting that you can ALWAYS ask to be referred to a specialist. Don't worry about what your GP might think, they've got enough to worry about.

Get referred, talk to your specialist and question what they tell you so you understand why you’re doing it. You’ll get control of your diabetes and you’ll live a long and happy life. I'm a good advert for that!

Good luck,

There's the problem…you said your GP. GP's are simply not qualified to care for Type 1 diabetes. They are not very good with Type 2, either. You badly need to see both an endocrinologist and a diabetes educator. Where I live, I have to travel 2 hours to see mine each 3 months, but it's well worth it. You’ll notice a world of difference…they deal with Type 1's day in and day out, so these are the experts and they have the ability to help you get your BG's under superior control. You need to jump on this quickly.

Answer:
First thing most physicians know less than most people here on answers. Get rid of the quack you’ve now and get another one. A specialist if you can afford it. You are heading for painful Neuropathy. A good vet. should have you on your feet in a week. You probably are also in depression , which in turn will let you stay at the status quo. You might be on the wrong insulin. Doctors must take the time to train you what to do and not to do. Or at least suggest someone who knows.
Today start your quest, it take time to see the the money grubbers.

Good luck my friend.

Answer:
Do you monitor your blood sugar as required….and that means frequently…particularly around meal time? Do you’ve a permanent insuling pack or do you’ve to give yourself shots (get the pack). I have a friend who has type one too and his dilligent monitoring has him living a very full life though he is VERY careful about monitoring and what he eats. I had heard there is new studies going on for major advancement in curing type one …… take good care of yourself and in your lifetime you will see a cure.

Answer:
I hope not, as the first answer say's follow the advice and keep going to your doctor, try not to worry to much it won't help any, do everthing you can to help yourself through this and get stable again.

Answer:
You have consultation of Endocrinology. After tests they will suggest you the medicine, as per the level of sugar in blood.

Answer:
Balance insulin taken with food eaten. Learn how much to take for certain meals, test, log it & go from there.
