I know ppl inject insulin but what would happen if you drank it?
I know it sounds silly but i was just curious.
Answer:
Insulin is made of proteins, which immediately are denatured and destroyed when they come in contact with the hydrochloric acids and enzymes of the digestive system.
There’s no danger posed by drinking insulin, but don't! A needy diabetic somewhere probably needs it.
Also, inhalable insulin has been recalled by its only producer, Phizer. There are rumors about another possible brand to release a similar product, but that’s probably years away.
Answer:
Just to add to the inhalable comments that have been put on here, my dad was part of the trial for inhalable insulin. He told me that it's being pulled because it was difficult to sell - it's rather difficult to adjust a dose if you eat a larger meal on it.
I wouldn't drink insulin if I were you, because the acids would just mess it up.
Answer:
If you drank it, it would get destroyed in the stomach (and once it is destroyed, it wouldn't work). That's why insulin has to be injected rather than swallowed.
Answer:
If you drank insulin there’s no way for it to get into your blood stream (i.e. it won't be absorbed by your body to use). Did you know they’ve insulin that you can inhale through your nose?
Answer:
Nothing would happen…your stomach would treat it like water and it would not absorb into the system.
Answer:
It depends on how much. If you drank anywhere from 1/4 of the bottle or more you could go in a diabetic coma and/or die.
Answer:
Nothing! It breaks down harmlessly. If we could take insulin in a pill none of us would be injecting it.
Answer:
” Drink Soy Milk, And You Will Not Need Insulin. “
