My lab has diebetes

Author: admin

He tested negative for cushings. His enzyme levels are 1400 . He is on 32 units insulin twice a day and liver pills [S-adenmosyl-225]. Sugar seems to be stablizing but the liver enzymes worry me. They stay the same. Anyone have any suggestions? He is 11yr.s old. He also licks his front lower legs?? Is this related?

Answer:
your lab is already very old and having diabetes and under regular medications, it is expected that his liver will be deteriorating by now.

His licking of the front legs is just a normal behaviour for dogs but too much is an indication of a complicated case of Diabetes.

There is very little thing you can do with regards to the liver, even if on liver meds because a damaged liver cannot be totally healed especially with continuous use of medications that are harmful to an aging liver.

Just be supportive, give much care as you can and have him checked regularly.
