Extreme hunger is not really a symptom of diabetes. Sometimes when people get low blood sugars, once they help themselves back into a normal sugar range they may feel like eating back into normal. Sometimes when your bloodsugar is too high, you can get excessively hungry, but usually it is more that you are excessively thirsty.

You may have something else going on. It sound to me like a thyroid problem, which is common in diabetics. You should see a doctor to see if you have hypo or hyperthyroidism. A doctor can then give you a little pill to take once a day with the right dose, your hunger will be more controlled because that chemical in our bodies called thyroid is essential to our metabolism, insulin production, and can cause a loss or gain in weight and excess or limited hunger-depending on the type, hypo or hyper.

Please see a doctor. Ask about thyroid testing….it is a simple blood test, and the doctor will know right away how to help.

Now see I think that's weird. I read it all the time that people have an are hungry when hyperglycemic, but I am the opposite, especially when I was first diagnosed. I had NO appetite. All I could do is drink. Drink drink drink. I'd put the cup down and it was like I hadn't had a drop. It's an awful feeling.

Answer:
It depends on a lot of factors. But to answer your question, and insatiable appetite is a symptom of diabetes. And so is extreme thirst.
