Having an over-active thyroid, known as hyperthyroidism, can lead to mood swings and irritability. The thyroid produces the hormone that controls your metabolism and when it produces to much of that hormone some of the symptoms are: losing weight although you haven't changed your diet, having a fast heart beat or trouble breathing even when you’re at rest, feeling weak in general, and mood swings, depression, and irritability.
