I waited an hour after my appointment time before I was seen at the physician so I was annoyed and left without asking some stuff. The office is shut now so maybe someone on here can give suggestions till I talk to him tomorrow.
He said my triglyceride count was through the roof . He gave me medicine and stated to cut my fat intake. I also have diabetes so I have to cut carbs and take meds. I don't know what the heck I can eat. Everything low fat has carbs and everything low carb is bad for my cholesterol. What does one eat in this situation?
He said my liver is going haywire too. I asked why but he doesn't know. I have to see a specialist. What kind of physician deals with livers? What would make someone's liver be working too hard? He stated something about a number on my lab work that's supposed to be a 5 and mine is a 9. I don't drink alcohol very often and that's all I know that can injured your liver. He also stated I’ve a bacterial infection of some kind and probably COPD. Could that could be messing with my liver? I asked him if I should just check into a nursing home or up my life insurance….I seem to be falling apart.
Any answers or suggestions appreciated and I am going to see him again tomorrow. I just wanted to something to pacify me I guess. Thanks.
Answer:
High triglyceride levels could be messing with your liver, as having a lot of fat in the blood stream apparently makes the liver work harder (according to my physician — I had a similar problem).
So does an infection such as one of the Hepatitis strains.
Other than that, if your own doctor doesn't know, that I doubt that we will be of much help. Sorry.

I don't know the answer to your other questions, but boneless chicken breast or fish are both low in carbs and fat. I would advise baking or broiling them to avoid added fat from frying them in oil. Also, even though you want to avoid certain carbs, certain vegetables are still helpful, especially things like carrots, broccoli, and leafy greens. Try to avoid adding a lot of butter, as that’s almost pure fat.

Answer:
hepatitis, alcohol, fatty foods, organ meats, all will affect your liver. When was the last time you had a thyroid check? If you’ve hypothyroidism it can greatly increase your cholesterol even if you’re doing all of the right dietary stuff.
My husband had thyroid cancer a couple of years ago and he is also diabetic and has high blood pressure. The docs do not have his thyroid meds adjusted right yet and his cholesterol jumped through the roof. He’d always had lower bad cholesterol than me before

First and foremost, what type of physician is he? Family Practice or Internal Medicine? Internal Medicine doctors (in my opinion) are superior suited for adults. Some recommendations for you:
1. On a piece of paper tonight, write down all of your questions and concerns that you'd like to address with your doctor upon your next visit.
2. Your physician will probably refer you to either an Internal Medicine doctor or a Gastroenterologist.
3. By having COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) you're probably experiencing swelling of your extremities. Maybe your lower extremities as well. COPD can affect more than just your lungs and your heart.
4. A bacterial infection can also cause liver issues. Also what type of diabetic medication are you taking? This could cause liver issues as well.
The bottom line? Jot down on a piece of paper questions that you feel are important to you, that you'd like to address with you doctor. Good luck to you!

Good grief Cindy, you sounds like me. My liver is OK though. I had one bad number a few months back. The triglycerides are related more to sugar than complex carbs. Try to curb your sweet tooth or at least stick to fruits like berries. If you have COPD (I have a touch of that) it should be diagnosed by a proper breathing test. My allergist diagnosed me. Spiriva helpd COPD. Ask your physician for a free sample, and make sure you have an inhaler for asthma that has not expired. I am taking Metformin (Glucophage) and Actos for diabetes. The Actos is very high-priced.
I physician that deals with liver function might be specialist in internal medicine.
The ideal plan is to make incremental healthy changes. Cut out those bad carbs. you can reward yourself with a candy bar that fits into a glycemic index and has sugar alcohols instead of sugars. Get a little more exercise now and increase it a tiny each week or two. Don't do anything drastic to overstress yourself.
If you're going to drink alcohol, I would recommend sticking with 1-2 glasses of red wine.
