I too have an underactive thyroid. I too have been on thyroxine. It takes a while to work actually not just a couple of days. After a couple of weeks you’ll feel much better but it is a time period of months before you actually start to feel the real benefits. I too had the upping of the dose after a period of time - without further blood tests. The thing with thyroid is that it often doesnt register on the blood counts. I spent 14 years trying to get a doctor to understand that my thyroid was underactive. In the end I found something on the net from USA that gave the same opinion and also 14 symptoms - I was active in 13 of them. The thyroid is a strange little gland and it does swing - sometimes its better than others. My advice is that when it drains you - rest. Dont try and fight that like I did - it just makes it worse. I also know people that were on thyroxine for a few years and then reduced the dose slowly as their symptoms had improved and finally came off it. I’m back now on a low low dose.
Research it on the net, be armed with information and keep in close contact with your physician - but dont be afraid to stand up for yourself if you think you need more help.

It will have started to work nearly at once. I’m however a bit puzzled by your regime. It is virtually impossible to predict how much levothyroxine an underactive patient needs. There is no question that normally the period between dose increases is 8-12 weeks and, even more importantly the thyroid blood tests, T4 and TSH, are always checked at this time, BEFORE a dose change is made!
Answer:
Ive been taking it for 5 years - you will have to take it for the rest of your life- You’ve to get bloodwork done every few weeks to regulate the hormone- Didnt your MD tell you this?
Answer:
my sister has that she said it starts to work but slowly after about the first couple days, and if its not working go and see your g.p. ♥
