i just saw a question and it said that i girl was scared to have hypothyroidism…… and i was just wondering what it was

Answer:
Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is a condition in which your thyroid gland doesn't produce enough of certain important hormones.

Women, especially those older than 50, are more prone to have hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism upsets the normal balance of chemical reactions in your body. It seldom causes symptoms in the early stages, but over time, untreated hypothyroidism can cause a number of health problems, such as obesity, joint pain, infertility and heart disease.

SYMPTOMS:

At first, you might barely notice the symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as fatigue and sluggishness, or you might simply attribute them to getting older. But as your metabolism continues to slow, you may develop more obvious signs and symptoms. Hypothyroidism symptom may include:

Fatigue

Sluggishness

Increased sensitivity to cold

Constipation

Pale, dry skin

A puffy face

Hoarse voice

An elevated blood cholesterol level

Unexplained weight gain

Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness

Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints

Muscle weakness

Heavier than normal menstrual periods

Brittle fingernails and hair

Depression

hope that answers your question :)

Answer:
Hypothyroidism is when your body lacks enough thyroid hormone. It causes weight gain, which would be the most noticeable symptom to people who don’t have the disease, along with many other symptoms:

tiredness

weakness

coarse, dry hair

hair loss

intolerance of cold weather

muscle cramps and aches

constipation

depression

irritability

among others.

The opposite of this would be hyperthyroidism. That would be too much thyroid hormone. Think hyper=lots. They would be very skinny from an onlookers perspective and also have other medical problems.
