how do you know if someone is a drug addict or an occasional user
Answer:
You probably don't know and neither does the person doing the drugs until things take a turn for the worse….
When drugs or alcohol take control over someone's life…that's when there is evidence that there is a problem….however…the problem started a while ago and has taken time to actually get to this point…
You ask "what makes a drug addict?" The answer to that question is: a lot of things…and it actually depends on the person, how they grew up….sometimes their race…especially childhood and how they grew up…
I know for myself…becoming a drug addict was something that I never ever intended to do…and most drug addicts don't want to be drug addicts….
My childhood and home life was very abusive, both verbally and mentally…not so much physically…the mental abuse was far worse than any physical and took a toll on me…and believe it or not…as smart as I was and am…(I was an honor roll student in a private school)…I wasn't smart enough to know what I was becoming…and it took me years…and I mean years to actually figure it out, admit it, accept it, and do something about it…
There are all kinds of degrees of addiction…and it depends on what the drug is that the person is addicted to…
Alcohol addiction takes a while to become life threatening…and society makes it all seem so glamorous that the person drinking really believes there is nothing wrong with his or her drinking because it's legal, and easily obtainable…as opposed to street drugs which are a lot harder, hard core, and illegal..
Prescription drug addiction is also another one that makes the user feel that there is nothing wrong with him or her because "the doctor prescribed it"…and it is very hard to overcome this type or way of thinking…
Recovery is NOT just stopping the use of the drug or alcohol…it's reprogramming your whole thought process and it's redoing your life and the way you think over again…it's not easy that's for sure….
I will be clean 3 years come April 8th…and yes…I am proud of myself because I did hard core drugs for almost 30 years…thank god I am still alive to talk about it and help someone that needs to know what it's all about…just remember, there is NOTHING GLAMOROUS about using drugs for any kind of purpous…not even recreational or occasional….
I could go on and on about the way different personality types are more prone to addiction than other personality types and it would probably bore you out of your mind…but if you're struggling with addiction and you would like to confir with me on anything about this subject, then please, do not hesitate to e-mail me…I would be honored to help you out if I could…knowledge is power and the more you know about something, the better chance you have of making the right choice for you, and your life…
