My aorta is enlarged. it should be 32 for my age but it is 40.
In the aorta, it is not opening fully. Because of this only a small amount of blood is being pushed through. It is also not closing properly, and this is causing a tiny of what gets through to come back in.
Are these problems related to these symptoms? (i have booked a visit in with a cardiologist next wednesday).
Symptoms are:
constant migraine.
chest pain.
fatigue.
breathlessness.
pain in the feet (it feels as if my nerves are being stretched)
please let me know. I am seeing a physician, but he’s not answering my questions at the moment without running a lot of tests which will take a few weeks.
thank you.
Answer:
I would think its your Aortic valve that’s not opening and closing properly and that you have a slightly enlarged Aorta as well. The enlarged Aorta is only slightly above normal and will be monitored and unless it gets to about 5.0cm then likely they’ll need to do nothing for it.
The valve has some regurgitation which is usual but it might get worse and can cause many of the symptoms you mention. Cardios don’t always communicate well with their patients…ask for more information or for them to explain already what they have found so you understand your current condition. You could always go see a different Cardio if you dont particularly like this one and there is another available in your local area.
Sometimes they wont tell you much at all until they have done the tests to get a definite diagnosis, otherwise you may get all upset about something thta isn’t even going to be a problem for you.
