Like the subject line states, can or are heart problems genetic? In my family, it seems to be the case, because my grandma has congestive heart failure, and my mom does also. My brother has a heart murmur, and I’ve supraventricular tachycardia, but my other brother and my sister don't have any heart problems. Could this be a result of a gene, or could it just be a really, really strong coincidence?
Answer:
Coincidence. As people get older many things are common seen like high Blood pressure, heart blockages (coronary artery disease) etc that can cause CHF. Murmur is from a valve abnormality and in young people are generally benign and SVT is a separate rhythm problem. These are all different things and have nothing in common so they wouldn't be explained by a genetic abnormality.
Answer:
yes. SOME heart problems are genetic. if heart disease runs in your family, you’re at risk to develop it too. however, there are lots of things you can do to protect yourself.
