My dad has had two heart bypass surgeries in the past three years. Quadruple open heart bypass Nov 2006, and a second triple bypass surgery (using a robotic arm with a small incision) in Nov 2007. Yesterday he went in for a stress test and failed. He's having an angiogram on Friday. I'm worried it's going to be the same bad news as the last two years.
I know he will not go through heart surgery again. What are his options? Are there any good websites with more information what his options are? What about alternative or holistic options?
Any help recommendations would be appreciated.
Answer:
Wait and see what the heart cath shows. Since he has had so much heart damage in the past it is not abnormal for him to “fail” a stress test. Now if it showed new areas of ischemia(poor blood flow) that is troubling. He should already be on beta blockers, ace inhibitors, statins, plavix, asa etc. as was said why is he occluding grafts. does he still smoke, non-compliant with taking his meds, poorly controlled diabetes, morbidly obese, or possibly have some type of clotting disorder? all things to look at.
Answer:
After two bypass surgerie that have failed, the option is medically treat them. Something is going on that these bypasses only lasted a year. Most CABG surgeries last 5-10 years. The physician wil keep him on medicine to reduce platelet function, and some dilators to keep the blood vessels nice and open. Good luck
Answer:
Has your Dad had an angiogram to study what happened to his grafts? They might be able to angioplasty an obstruction and insert a stent. If not the only option is to maximize his medications, take care, Donna
