I am 25 years old and on Friday I found out that I’ve high blood pressure & diabetes. Well I got a blood pressure machine and just used it 30 minutes ago. My readings was 142/96 with a pulse of 91. is that high?

Answer:
You’ve got Stage 1 Hypertension. Optimal BP is less than 120/80 mmHg. Normal BP is less than 130/85 mmHg.High normal BP is 130-139/85-89 mmHg.
Follow-up recommended: Confirm in two months; one BP medication; Change lifestyle.(Since you have diabetes, BP medication is compulsory)
Normal pulse rate of a resting person is 60-100 beats per minute.
Check the function of the kidney (for microalbuminuria, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen), heart (for hypertrophy) and retina ( for hypertensive retinopathy) once in a year.
Control your blood sugar and bad cholesterol.

Answer:
A doctor will be able to determine whether or not you’ve high blood pressure, so be sure to receive regular health screenings to promptly detect and treat any problems. As blood pressure does fluctuate, one high blood pressure reading does not necessarily mean you have hypertension. Repeated readings of high pressure may lead to a diagnosis.

While extensive tests are not usually needed to determine high blood pressure, your physician might suggest further tests to determine whether there is an underlying cause for the elevated blood pressure and to determine if any damage to organs has occurred as a result.

What are the Symptoms of High Blood Pressure?

What makes high blood pressure so dangerous is that most people don’t experience any symptoms, even when blood pressure readings are dangerously high. However, some people might notice one or two of the following if their levels are consistently raised:

* Headaches
* Dizziness
* Blurred vision
* Nausea
* Increased nosebleeds

These symptoms are not always present and could be indicative of a number of different health concerns. It is thus important to have your blood pressure checked regularly.

While high blood pressure can be a potentially life-threatening condition, it can be successfully managed through the correct medical treatment and positive life-style changes. Treatment often includes prescription medication, natural remedies, or a combination of both.

Whatever you decide, it is important to adopt a holistic approach to your health and include life-style changes into your treatment program.

There are a number of herbal and homeopathic remedies that are well known for their capability to control high blood pressure with great success. Unlike conventional medicines, which do not always address the root cause, natural remedies can do this without the danger of side effects or addiction.

In keeping with a holistic approach to health, Naturopaths recognize that high blood pressure might be a sign or symptom of imbalance in the body and thus advocate a combination of lifestyle changes and natural remedies to remove the causes of the high blood pressure, rather than simply just treating the symptoms.

I was at a pharmacy picking up some advil, and there was a blood pressure machine so when i checked my blood pressure it was 159. is that considered high for my age or is that normal. i am 17, approx 210 pounds and am somewhat active by working around on cars.

Answer:
There are always two numbers in a blood pressure reading. The first is the 'Systolic' number, which is the 'high' number. The second is the 'Diastolic' number which is lower.

A 'normal' blood pressure is 120/80, but this can vary between people.

Assuming the 159 was your Systolic, then yes, that’s considered high. There are a number of reasons for a high reading, including pain, infections, or even anxiety associated with examinations.

Don't let one high pressure reading worry you excessively, but do get your blood pressure checked by a medical professional to be sure you don't have actual hypertension.

17 is not too young to have hypertension. More and more young adults, teens, and even pre-teens are being diagnosed with hypertension.

It pays to be careful with your blood pressure. Uncontrolled hypertension is known as 'The Silent Killer' because it causes numerous secondary problems, including heart disease, liver disease, and can in time befatal.

Answer:
Its high. Normal blood pressure should be <120/80. As was mentioned, you need to have it rechecked. Two more high BP's will confirm the diagnosis of hypertension. Also at 17 hypertension is quite unusual, you need to see a doctor to check for anything that might be causin your BP to be high. In the meantime, you should try losing weight, if you're overweight. Cutting down on salt will also help.

Answer:
There are two numbers that make up a blood pressure reading, not just one. But if either of them is 159, you need to see a Dr.
You don't give your height but if you're under 6'2″, 210 is overweight. Working around on cars doesn't qualify as an exercise routine.

Answer:
Yeah, it's high. But, you need to check again and make sure you are not nervous or had any strenuous activity before the blood pressure checking. Try to change your diet or exercise a lot. It might help since you are still young.

Answer:
YES, that is high for anyone. Usually your pressure is low at 17. It should be 120/80 at most. 125/85 would be ok. Go to the physician and get meds to lower it.
Don't use salt either, use the salt substitute.

Answer:
Yeah dude get on a diet. Lay off salts workout eat no saturated fat
