He just had esphageal cancer surgery on Monday, but it has been a liitle high but this day it is up there, What’s the danger of such high blood pressure for these numbers?

Answer:
The standard blood pressure should be below 120/80, so the lower number (diastolic) is great. This is good, as the diastolic causes more concern when it is high than the higher number. The top number (systolic) is quite high, at 188.

Does he consistently have high blood pressure, or has it just been since the surgery? There are risks of chronic effects from this high of a blood pressure without treatment, such as heart disease, kidney disease, hardening of the arteries, and stroke. However, it takes time for these diseases to develop. If this high blood pressure is current, it could also be related to the surgery and/or post-op medications. Post-surgery, high blood pressure is not a good thing, as it could cause damage to closures/sutures, etc.

Please let his doctor know, as this is a relatively high number, and should not go untreated.

Best of luck.

Answer:
My suggestion is to call his doctor and let him know this before it gets any higher. My husband has been fighting high blood pressure which can lead to strokes, heart attacks and blocked arteries which cause both of these. He had to have one of his arteries in his neck operated on since it was clogged and could have lead to a major stroke. Don't take any chances with this and call and let the doctor know. Good luck.

Answer:
His diastolic seems very good(70) he systolic is high. So I would call his doc and make sure that the medications he is taking don't pop up his BP. He might give him a mild BP medication to keep down the first number. Ask for Benicar , it is mild & has no side effects in general.

Answer:
He should avoid salt and eat foods that reduce blood pressure (those high in potassium).
