Rabies Shots for Humans?

Author: admin

each year my sis gets her rabies' shots because you can never be too certain if you’re infected with rabies.

so i don't think i have ever gotten a rabie's shot and i am so concerned because i just finished watching the motion picture “Quarantine” so the movie's gotten me all freaked out about rabies.

where do you get the rabie's shots? in your neck? stomach? arm?

Answer:
You’ve been given some wrong Information. A rabies shot isn’t available as a preventative inoculation, only after you’ve received a bite from an infected animal or human.

Answer:
No one will ever receive a rabies shot as a preventative measure unless they are often exposed to animals at risk of having rabies. I.e. Vet, farmer, etc…

Rabies vaccine is only given out after contact between infected saliva and a break in the skin occur.

If someone receives the vaccine as a preventative, it is injected in the arm, the biceps. If it is given after a bite, it is injected into the area where the skin break occurred.

EDIT: I've been in Public Health in Northern Ontario for a few years now. Ontario stats show high occurances of rabies in some areas. Vets and Ministry of Natural Resources (racoon re-location program espcially) employees generally will receive a form rabies vaccination for prevention.

Answer:
there have only been 20 cases of rabies in america in the last 5 years so i think you safe
