I’ve a friend who is experiencing symptoms and has no medical insurance. She does have access to antibiotics 600mg tetracycline and is wondering if one of these capsules (or possibly two) per day over the next ten days or so might help. I'm not sure…can anyone help, she's in a bit of a panic…
Answer:
As an at-home treatment, increased water-intake, frequent urination and defecation, the avoidance of sugars and sugary foods, drinking unsweetened cranberry juice, as well as taking vitamin C with the last meal of the day can shorten the time duration of the infection. Vitamin C at night raises the acidity of the urine, which retards the growth of bacteria in the urinary tract. However, if pain is in the back region (suggesting kidney infection) or if pain persists, if there’s fever, or if blood is present in the urine, doctor care is recommended.
Sugars and alcohol can feed the bacteria causing the infection, and worsen pain and other symptoms.
Tetracycline will NOT help your friend, it is mostly meant to treat acne, as well as treating bacterial-caused ulcers. Hope your friend feels better.
Answer:
Taking a drug that is not prescribed in not a good idea at all, but antibiotics are the method of treatment for that malady, along with diuretics and increased fluid intake. The only med I know that is commonly prescribed is Augmenten, which is still very expensive…
She has the ability to go to a county or city health clinic, these are FREE! Please don't let her just pop tetracycline just because she can get her hands on it, it could interfere with the actual proper med the clinic will GIVE her!
Good Luck!
Answer:
my physician didn't prescribe tetracycline to me… I'm on Macrobid (Nitrofurantonin-Macro) 100mg twice a day for 7 days. Prior to this, I was prescribed Bactrium twice a day for 7 days. I think my situation is special though b/c I frequently get urinary tract infections.
Urinary tract infections aren't fun, so I recommend going to the physician. I think Antibiotics are pretty cheap these days too…
