I’ll be having an appointment with the nurse soon so will see what she states but im wondering if any other sufferers can answer my question.
I’m 19 and have been off of preventer inhalers for over a year now. I just stopped taking them as i got paranoid they were what caused my chest pain! I havnt needed to take a reliever inhaler apart from maybe twice for minor symptoms caused by cold air in this time period.
Could my asthma have gone or do i still have it. I on occasion get a bit short of breath with triggers such as second hand smoke and perfumes but it passes very quickly and i dont need the inhalers.
The funny thing is i was always on preventers twice a day since i developed asthma when i was 4/5 years old. How can it just be OK now?

Answer:
Its unlikely that it has gone - just a period of respite before it comes back.

I've been asthmatic all my life and get periods of “rest” like this, but then it comes back and bites very hard.

Always carry your reliever inhaler with you - you never know when you might need it. I don't think asthma ever truly goes, but that is just my view.

Answer:
It might have gone into “hibernation” for a while. You might have overcome the allergens or whatever triggered your attacks. But rest assured! It will eventually come back to bite you and hard! It might take 40 years, and maybe by then they will have some less devastating meds to control it.

Answer:
Sometimes people grow out of it. For example, you might have had it when you were younger but now you're an adult so you might have grown out of it. You should definitely carry one around with you just in case though.

Answer:
you can outgrow childhood asthma, I did.

Answer:
I'd state yes, you’ve asthma. It varies from person to person and can become milder or stronger as we grow. I was born with asthma, had one major asthma attack when i was 9. I hardly ever took my inhaler when i was a teenager (mabe on occasion when it was cold, when i got sick, or when i did exercise).

Recently, shortness of breath and a tight chest comes on when I run and one breath of the inhaler sorts it out for the rest of the day.

So I think you just have mild asthma, and your physician may just give you an inhaler just in case. :)
