His phlem is gray almost black sometimes. I'm really worried about him. He smokes a lot of pot as well since he was 15. He'll be 23 next month. He doesn't smoke cigs though. We are both really worried about the color of the phlem. What could it be? I also think it's important to mention that he has asthma. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Answer:
Any kind of smoke is an irritant to the lungs and will increase problems with asthma including phlegm production. Gray and black phlegm is usually from smoking (doesn't matter what).
He should probably see a dr and get this checked. But I am betting a month not being around smoke will make a great change. That includes second-hand smoke.
It will suck to quit especially if all your friends are still doing it. And he'll always miss it. But its worth it to live and be healthy. Been there myself and quitting was easier than I thought. But also seen several people in their 30's on oxygen and can't do anything anymore - like they are 70 or 80 years old. And people die from asthma every day.
Answer:
If the phlem is black that means it may be blood. Your husband needs to immediately see a doctor; oh, and stop smoking pot, since it's not addictive, that shouldn't be hard.
Answer:
If he is serious about regaining his health then the first thing
he needs to do is stop the drugs.
Otherwise, there isn't much point in helping.
BUT: If he has decided to stop, then seek out a Naturepath
for help.
There may be too many issues here to chance a do-it-yourself treatment.
Good luck!

Answer:
if you think the smoke from the pot isn't messing up your lungs you are SERIOUSLY uninformed.pot smokers get just as much lung cancer as tobacco smokers
Answer:
He needs to immediately stop smoking! Sounds like he may have premature emphysema and is most definitely exacerbating his asthma. Marijuana smoke is loaded with just as many carcinogens and other harmful chemicals as tobacco, and it provides more exposure as it's smoke is usually inhaled unfiltered, providing for maximum THC absorption. If he's been consuming that stuff for so long I don't expect he'd have any inclination to give it up, so he should at least try another method of using it such as eating it or at least using a bong (which does filter some impurities as well as provides humidity so the smoke is less irritating to his lungs).
If this is just a recent occurrence, he should see a doctor ASAP as this may be a sign of infection and may need an antibiotic, and the color of the smoke impurities may be masking the yellow or green color usually indicative of an infection. In the meantime he can take a guaifenesin product like Mucinex or plain Robitussin to help thin the mucus. He should drink allot of water with this as well.
Just because pot is "natural" does not mean it isn't a drug. In fact, many modern prescription drugs are based from natural products, and just because the natural chemical has been chemically duplicated does not mean the original chemical isn't a drug. Even THC (the active ingredient in pot) has been synthetically replicated in the prescription drug Marinol. In truth, moderation is the key. Too much of anything can be a bad thing, whatever a person's personal beliefs.

It could be acid reflux disease. My hubby smokes pot too and spits up phlem now and then and always seems to get heart burn.

Answer:
Ok-you have a few things going on. #1-asthma means air gets in and cant get out-this causes irritation of the trachea and the black spots you are seeing could be dried blod from the cappillaries bleeding from the irritation of the coughing.#2-the phlemph he is coughing up is coming from his ability to get air in and not out trherefore causing further irriattion of the lining od the trachea and the body needs to get it up and out of the lungs is what he is coughing up.The harsh smoke from the pot is what is causing it-the inhaled smoke is held in for a few so you can get the buzz and then blowing it out and trying to get IT ALL out is what is causing this. The only real cure is to give it up, he is too young to be having these lung problems this early.
