At least he told you. Many people wouldn't have. Don't not date someone because of herpes. Just make sure you truly love him and want him before having sex with him. And when/if you do have sex make sure he wears a condom and if taking valtrex as a preventative measure. Its not really that huge of a deal as it seems. My best friend has herpes and has for years. She’s now married and he still doesn't have it. After a few years most people don't get outbreaks anymore.

Believe it ot not there are some people out there that would care more about you then you having an std. It may take a while to find some one but there are some people who will be willing to accept you. If they reject you because you have herpes then you don't need them in your life. The people that reject you will only be constantly paranoid about getting herpes from you and that’s not a healthy relationship. Some people take the danger of possibly getting an std if they see a future with that person and to be with some one they really love.

Consider how long he has had it - does he take suppressive therapy? How familiar is he with his own outbreaks?

The guy was honest with you - there are so many out there who would not be. Many of us who have herpes encountered those who weren't honest and we know what it was like.
