basically, they were 34% of the total amount of blacks in D.C., however teenage blacks made up 55% of the total cases for teens. this is supposed to be one of the highest rates in the country. where are these statistics coming from. In any sense, it's something of a question of exactly how does this come to be.
I'm sure no one goes around saying they really want this. even though it can't be a confidence trick, I'm just confused as to how so many people could get something so horrible.

I don't trust any stats that get thrown out like lollipops … or tossed out in 15 second sound bites. In fact, I *thought* I heard it as STDs, not HIV…did I hear it wrong or did you? Can you find the original report and analyze who put it out and whether there is background data or jsut the headlines?

I think it is awesome that you are asking questions about HIV statistics. There are so many people who just don't realize how bad the problem is because people know that it is now manageable though there's still no cure.
You touched on the part of the statistics that show just how heavily impacted the black community is by HIV. Though they only compromise 34% of the population, their rates of infection are what they call “disproportionately high.” There are reasons for it, most relate to culture, religion, and a lack of non-abestenance education. More people should be asking the question you’ve asked so that maybe our government would realize that the current AIDS strategy is not working.
